Time to Unite Again for Peace
I am sure that as you read
these lines you would agree with me that the world needs more than a little
help when it comes to peace on the planet.
I am usually very optimistic
when it comes to trying diplomacy rather than weapons, but from what I see and
read about the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Africa, United States, it seems
that diplomatic efforts are not having any meaningful effects lately.
Come join this global conversation in your own neighborhood. UN Secretary General has asked all of us, public voices, nonprofits, civil society, what are the most urgent issues our world faces after the UN Millennium Development Goals end in 2015. Find out if we've achieve or failed to reach these MDGs. Tell us where you think the most urgent issues we face. We need your input. For background go to www.worldwewant2015.org
Discussion will be led by our SVUNA GenUN Youth leaders. They are our future but we can help shape the direction and focus.

The Cyrus Cylinder is among the most revered objects to have survived from the ancient world.
Today, we have news about another mass killing in the United States, this time at a Newton, Connecticut elementary school. So many of my friends and our leaders are in tears at the horror and loss of so many innocent children and adults who worked or volunteered there. Such acts seems imcomprehensible, yet they happen.
After hearing of this tragedy, one of my friends post on her Facebook page that Gallup polls showed that 47% of US households own guns. Gun owners fiercely protect their 2nd Amendement rights to "bear arms" and own these weapons which too often are used not for protection but unintended and intended harm and mayhem.
Silicon Valley United Nations Association has joined a Coalition of OWL (Older Women's League) and WILPF (Women's International League for Peace & Freedom). Coalition Meetings take place quarterly.
EVENT: Sat. Dec. 15, 10 am-noon. Come celebrate the holidays with a Potluck program featuring "Interactive Sharing." What's REALLY important to you? To what do you attribute your longevity? How do you interpret the elections? Raging Grannies sing-a-long.
